Indianapolis Colts VS Tennessee Titans in Tennessee September 6, 2007 Game 2
COLTS
VS TITANS
Uncharacteristic
Colts Offense One foolish last 2 minutes Both The Colts and The Titans played a foolish last minute drive, nevertheless The Colts Defense prevailed! With The Colts on top 22 to 20 at the two minute warning of The Game, one would think it's an easy win, simply use Addai to run the ball and at the same time run down the clock. Manning had another alternative. Manning decided to pass the ball, twice. Twice he threw incomplete. Manning appeared to go again for a pass as he was sacked instead and Colts ended up having to punt. Turning over the ball to the Titans with way more than enough time to execute and score for the winning touchdown or even a field goal, as what the development looked to be as Titans drove down the field. With the Titans sitting on The Colts 45 yard line and 25 seconds left in the game, Vince Young threw 2 incomplete passes to Jones. Fourth down and 15 seconds left in the game, one would think it's an easy win, simply bring out Bironas, who won the game last year in 2006 with a 60 yard field goal. Fisher had another alternative. "Anytime the ball's in Vince Young's hands, everyone feels like we're going to win the game," Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch said. "We were just waiting for something magical to happen."
HUH! NO
MAGIC HERE, CURSED MORE LIKE IT, With 15 seconds left on 4th down and 4 to go for a first, Titans went for it as they were instantaneously swarmed by The Colts Defense. Defensive tackle Darrel Reid crashed into the backfield. Left end Josh Thomas pushed hard. Young was in trouble, as he was engulfed by Colts Defensive Players he searched frantically for an option. He tried at first to run, Middle linebacker Gary Brackett knifed in and clamped his legs; when trapped, Young lateraled desperately to left guard Jacob Bell as the play got even wilder . . . . . . Linebacker Tyjuan Hagler flew at Jacob Bell, who in turn panicked, bobbled and pitched to . . .
. . .to Colts' Left Tackle, Darryl Reid. Reid had the football at the Tennessee 38. The clock read 0:04. GAME OVER! For a 22-20 victory in front of a raucous 69,143 crowd at LP Field as The Defending Champion Indianapolis Colts (2-0) reminded Tennessee which team remains atop the AFC South. "It was crazy. Everybody just kind of bulled their guy and the whole pocket collapsed," Josh Thomas said. "I don't know who hit him," Freeney said. "Guys were all over the place. We just had to keep getting to him." Freeney added: "The opportunities we're looking for, it's that situation right there. The fourth quarter, under a minute left, they need a touchdown; we need to stop them. &ldots; That's the type of games I love to play. Defensively, your backs are to the wall; they're at home, everybody is booing us. I love it." Sanders said "I figured he was going to run because that's what he does best. He scrambles around the pocket. I definitely figured he was going to run the ball. I wanted to get as close to the line of scrimmage and keep him in the pocket. We did that."
Pittsburgh
Steelers Strong Safety, Troy Polamalu. Ya gotta love 'em. I've
always said, if The Colts had that guy, they would be something else! Bob Sanders, who was credited with a team-high 11 tackles and had 2 1/2 sacks Sunday, the first sacks of his NFL career shared the other half with Gary Brackett. Sanders helped with the pass rush all day. Bob Sanders was a safety in name only on Sunday. He spent more time stationed near the line of scrimmage like a linebacker as the Colts loaded "the box'' in an attempt at stopping Tennessee's running game. "Actually I was right next to Gary the whole time, so it did kind of feel like I was playing 'backer,'' Sanders said. It's just the latest and greatest for a man who has become one of the best defensive players in the NFL. The NFL would agree as Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders has been named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday's victory against the Tennessee Titans. "It's a huge honor,'' Sanders said. "There were a lot of guys I know who were very deserving of it, but I definitely appreciate it and hopefully I can continue to work to get more." "It does feel special and it's something that I always think about going into the week -- playing well enough to be recognized throughout the league.'' New starters Marlin Jackson and Kelvin Hayden both bring additional speed to the secondary as they've adopted Sanders' "kill at will" hitting style. Antoine Bethea, who came out of nowhere to earn a starting spot as a rookie in 2006, continues to improve with every game and is also a star in the making. "It was a great win to come on the road and win a division game,'' said Manning, "but I don't think we played our best football.'' One would agree as intermittent mistakes fouled up Colts offensive rhythm. First there was "Mr. Clutch" Adam Vinatieri who had one of his worst days in years despite making field goals of 22, 39 and 20 yards. Not only did the Colts' veteran place-kicker have his first point-after-touchdown attempt swatted down, he nearly had a 20-yard chip-shot field goal blocked on the final play of the third quarter. To cap an otherwise forgettable day, he pulled a 36-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter wide left. Along with four different players found guilty of false starts, there were a handful of dropped passes, including three by tight end Dallas Clark. Peyton Manning made some bad throws as the one to Marvin Harrison on a critical first-and-10 at the Titans 31 on the first play just after the final 2-minute warning. Manning's pass was under thrown and former Colts Nick Harper batted it down. Manning himself, was sacked twice and pressured more than normal. Nick Harper, just one of The Titans five ex-Colts players in the house. Gilbert Gardner, Ben Hartsock, Corey Simon and David Thornton were of the other 5. With the loss of Nick Harper and Gilbert Gardner from The Colts Super Bowl Squad, Colts also went into their match up against the Titans without two of their starting linebackers; Rob Morris and Freddy Keiaho. Keiaho, who played with a dislocated right elbow last week against New Orleans, made seven tackles and had an interception against the Saints. Tyjuan Hagler made his first NFL start in Keiaho's place making five tackles and a recovered fumble. Hagler appeared in nine games in 2006, playing mostly special teams. Morris had been listed as questionable with a rib injury. Former Titans linebacker Rocky Boiman started in his place. Boiman and Hagler each started at outside linebacker for the Colts against the Tennessee Titans Sunday, with Boiman getting his second start with the Colts and Hagler making his first career start. Boiman had started 11 games for Tennessee from 2002-2005. Other Colts that were inactive Sunday were cornerback Michael Coe, safety Brannon Condren, offensive tackle Charlie Johnson, offensive tackle Michael Toudouze, defensive tackle Dan Klecko and defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock.
On With The Show
The Tennessee Titans won the flip as they elect to receive. FIRST QUARTER Adam Vinatieri kicks it off for 70 yards to the Titans 0 yard line and Michael Griffin runs it back 23 yards before being wrapped up by Clint Session and Darrell Reid.
Titans Ball The Titans tried to establish the run early as they came out banging from their first offensive snaps with 2 runs off the bat; a Young pass converts a 3rd and 7. Titans LenDale White ran for 11 yards for another first and I believe Colts Safety, Bob Sanders who made the stop on the play said that's enough as Titans ran it 4 more times with Sanders making every stop. After Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney and safety Bob Sanders stopped Titans running back Chris Brown for a 1 yard gain on 3rd and 2 from the Colts 45, Tennessee went for it on 4th and 1 from the Colts 44. Again, the Titans ran Chris Brown who gets the handoff and Brock buried behind the line of scrimmage. Technically, it was for no gain, but he lost a little yardage from when they measured the spot before the play.
COLTS BALL
Manning
took over with a short field passing incomplete on their first play
deep left to Dallas Clark with Tony Brown breaking up the play. Colts
directed a First Down when Addai ran it up the middle for 4 yards and
then Clark making a Manning reception for 6. Manning and Harrison run
a rather familiar route as Peyton pump fakes and hits Marvin Harrison
deep for a 37 yard gain down the right sideline to the Titans 8 with
Nick Harper, the ex-Colt, trailing in man coverage. On the next play,
Addai easily makes his way into the end zone. Colts 6 Titans 0 Vinatieri kicks it off for 56 yards to Titans 14 and Michael Griffin runs it back for 26 yards to their own 40.
Titans Ball The Titans crossed midfield again on their second drive as young connected with Brandon Jones for 9 yards and LenDale White ran for 2 for the First Down. Young dumped one off to Chris Davis for 8 yards before Jacob Bell is called for a False Start and brings the Titans back 5 yards. On 2nd and 7 Young throws incomplete. Young tries to scramble on third down as he is being rushed by Colts Defenders to end up being drilled by Gary Brackett and Bob Sanders, who each get credit for half a sack. Young is down for a spell, shaken up and holding his head with both his hands. Young then bounces up and screams something at the Colts' sideline. Not just a few players, but Young yelled at the entire sideline, complete with a few hand gestures. "That's how people get hurt," said Colts safety Bob Sanders. "We're after you. You know what I'm saying? I told him, 'If I was you, I'd be quiet.'" "I didn't think that was smart on his part," Sanders said. "He was running around talking and clapping and chanting. I'm like, 'Look, we're hitting you. Are you serious? You're going to start acting like that?'" Titans end up punting on 4th and 7 which is received by T. J. Rushing as a fair catch at Colts 16 yard line.
COLTS BALL Colts picked up a First Down on their first 2 plays after Addai ran for 4 and Manning hit Ben Utecht for 7. After Addai made another run for 3 yards and Manning connected with Utecht again who in turn fumbles the ball but Dallas Clark saves him with the recovery. On Colts next play at their own 33 on 3rd and 4, Manning fires one to Dallas Clark which sails right through his hands and deflects to rookie wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez. Titans Head Coach Jeff Fisher challenged the call and replays showed the ball hit the ground and the play was reversed. Colts Hunter Smith punts it for 34 yards as Colts; Roy Hall downs it at the Titans 33 yard line.
Titans Ball Titans went to the air on first down and Young found a wide-open Roydell Williams behind the defense as Williams burns Kelvin Hayden on a deep route down the right sideline to the Colts 19 for a 48-yard play. But the Colts stopped the next three plays as Hagler stops White before he runs for 6 yards. On 2nd and 4 Bob Sanders and Antoine Bethea allows no more than 1 yard from LenDale White and Vince Youngs pass to Brandon Jones is thrown wide and out of reach forcing the Titans to settle for a 30 yard field goal by Bironas. Colts 6 Titans 3 Bironas kicks it off for 60 yards to Colts 10 as T. J. Rushing runs it back and is pushed out of bounds at The Colts 24.
COLTS BALL Joseph Addai starts off this series with a run up the Titans Middle for a gain of 6 yards before Ben Utecht is called for a False Start on the next play to bring it back 5 yards. On 2nd and 9 Manning hits Dalls Clark on a quick-hit pass before the Titans defense can react, Clark then makes a nice sidestep away from a tackler and gains 11 yards for the First Down to end The First Quarter. SECOND QUARTER Colts 6 Titans 3
COLTS BALL Manning came right back, marching the Colts 64 yards on 8 plays in the 2nd quarter driving it right down the Titans' throats again, passing and running. Manning's first pass to Fletcher was broken up by Albert Haynesworth. Joseph Addai ran it for 5 yards before Peyton finds Wayne uncovered (Nick Harper?) on a slant route for a gain of 20 on a 3rd down pass. Addai ran the ball on the next 3 plays for gains of 9, 0 and 6 for a First Down as Kenton Keith comes in and runs it up the left end to Titans 22 for 2 yards.
On 2nd
and 8, Dallas Clark beats former Colts Player David Thornton in
coverage and Peyton hits him deep down the middle for 22 yards and
The Touchdown! Colts 13 Titans 3 Vinatieri kicks it off 74 yards to Titans end zone (-4) as Michael Griffin muffs the catch and recovers it to bring out to The Titans 29 for 30 yards before he is brought down by Dante Hughes and Ramon Guzman.
Titans Ball
On Titans
first play Chris Brown is stopped by Darrell Reid as he tries to run
up the middle for no gain. Young then dumped off a short pass
to Brown in which he only managed a gain of 2 yards before Kelvin
Hayden and Tyjuan Hagler brings him down. The Titans immediately faced a 3rd and 8 before Young ignited the crowd with a 21 yard scramble into Colts territory at the 48 yard line. The Titans ran 8 more plays moving the ball 30 yards only to once again stall inside the red zone as Colts Defense overcomes and Tennessee is forced to go for 3 points off a 36 yard field goal from Bironas to trim the margin to seven with 4:23 left in the half. Colts 13 Titans 6 Bironas kicks it off for 50 yards out of bounds to The Colts 20 yard line.
COLTS BALL Despite great field position on their own 40 yard line after the kickoff bounced out of bounds, The Colts were unable to get any kind of rhythm going as Addai was hit behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 3 yards on the first play. Ryan Diem was called for a False Start on the next. Although Manning connected with Dallas Clark for 9 yards on the ensuing play Peyton threw incomplete to Marvin on 3rd and 9. Colts were forced to punt as Hunter kicks it 59 yards into the end zone for the Touchback.
Titans Ball Titans attempted one rush for a whopping gain of 1 yards then waited for the 2 minute warning. One certainly does not want to give Peyton Manning and The Indianapolis colts the ball if they can prevent it. Two Minute Warning Young scrambles for 7 yards prior to being pushed out of bounds before he connects with Roydell Williams for 9. 1st and 10 and Young tries to go deep to Tight End Bo Scaife, yet Antoine Bethea is there to break up the play. On 2nd and 10, Young scrambles for 7 yards before he is hit by Kelvin Hayden as he stepped out of bounds, Young took offense leading to him flipping the ball at Hayden's stomach. Officials saw the reaction and flagged him for taunting; 15 yards. Vince Youngs unsportsmanlike conduct penalty didnt cost just 15 yards. It also cost the quarterback $7,500. The NFL fined Young for the penalty. I'm curios as to why they didn't flag Young for removing his helmet as he did as well. As much as Titans fans will say Hayden should have been penalized, too, I don't disagree, but the refs saw Young. Trust me. If Walt Coleman and his crew (The Indianapolis Colts Haters Club) saw it they would have called it! With Titans on their own 29 yard line, yet on 3rd and a LONG 18 Young is only capable of getting off an 8 yard pass to Chris Davis before he is met up with Marlin Jackson. Titans are forced to punt.
Colts
call their 1st Timeout Craig Hentrich punts it 51 yards to Colts 12 where T. J. Rushing runs it back for only 5 yards.
COLTS BALL Indy took over at its own 17 yard line with only a little over a minute remaining in the half. Plenty of time for Peyton and The Colts! Anthony Gonzalez, the Colts' first-round selection in this past April's NFL Draft picked an opportune time for the first receptions of his NFL career as Manning passed twice to Gonzalez for notable gains.
Gonzalez's
first reception came when Manning was under pressure, Peyton got rid
of the ball into a tight coverage of Anthony Gonzalez being
sandwiched between safety Vincent Fuller and former Colts cornerback
Nick Harper. Gonzalez leaped up in the air over both Fuller and
Harper and made an almost impossible catch for a gain of 23 yards. On Colts next snap, Gonzalez ran a seam route down the other side of the field. Again, Peyton fires one to Gonzalez as Anthony pulls it in for another big gain of 22 yards.
Colts
call their 2nd Timeout
Manning
then connected with Reggie Wayne on 2 completions, one for 9 and the
other for 21 to end up on The Titans 8 yard line. With 18 seconds left in the half, Manning connects again with Gonzalez for 4 yards. Then, instead of using his third timeout on 3rd and goal from the 2 with less than 10 seconds on the clock, Manning played hurry-up and missed Harrison in the end zone leaving only 1 second on the clock. Just enough time for Vinatieri to kick a 22 yard field goal to make it 16-6 giving Indianapolis a 10 point lead heading into the locker room. "That's probably cutting it a little too close,'' Manning said."But sometimes we've scored a lot of our touchdowns when we haven't given the defense a chance to get settled.'' Colts 16 Titans 6
THIRD QUARTER
Colts 16 Titans 6 Colts receive the kickoff Bironas kicks it off for 71 yards into the end zone (-1 yard line) as T. J. Rushing ran it back for 36 yards to The Colts 35 before being pushed out of bounds.
COLTS BALL The Colts emerged from the locker room with another impressive drive as Joseph Addai ran for technically 9 yards; however he was caught behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 5 on one play. Manning completed 5 of 6 passes for 53 yards as Colts marched into Titans' territory, just like that. But not until after Reggie Wayne was called for a false start and Colts started off with 1st and 15 for their first play. After back to back penalties for 5 yards with Titans Haynesworth being called for a Neutral Zone Infraction, Colts Jake Scott was called for a false start on the proceeding play. 2nd down and 6; Colts on the Titans 13 yard line; Manning gets sacked as Albert Haynesworth came in unblocked and the drive stalls.
That's a questionable hit! The Colts ended up driving 44 yards on 11 plays taking a 13 point lead when Colts had to settle for a Vinatieri 39 yard field goal with 5:19 into the quarter. Colts 19 Titans 6 Vinatieri kicks it off for 74 yards into the Titans End Zone (-4 yard line) as Griffin runs it out for 28 yards to their own 24 before being brought down by Rookie Player Roy Hall.
Titans Ball Young threw incomplete as he went down deep to Ben Troupe on their first down; on the other hand he found wide receiver Brandon Jones for 26 yards on the next play. White broke through the left side for 12 yards to get another First Down as Colts Defense stifled them the remaining of their drive. Josh Thomas broke up a pass to Williams on 1st and 10 and Dwight Freeney was not about to allow LenDale White any credit as he nailed him for no gain on the next play. On 3rd and 10 Young misfires as he was rushed by a Colts blitz and Marlin Jackson was on his tail. 4th and 10 on Colts 38 and Titans punt as Hentrich punts it 37 yards to The Colts 1 yard line where Titans Rookie cornerback Michael Griffin downed the ensuing punt inches from the goal line.
COLTS BALL Joseph Addai started this drive off with a gain of 2, however, Manning threw incomplete to Dallas Clark trying to go deep on the next play. On 3rd and 8 on The Colts 3 yard line, Manning from the shotgun fires to Reggie Wayne who was knocked off his route by Titans safety Chris Hope 10 to 12 yards downfield (way past the five yard limit).
While Walt Coleman and his crew failed to call illegal contact of course; Cortland Finnegan picked off the pass to give the Titans great field position at the Colts 15. "I've got to see that interception again,' Manning said. "You feel pretty good when you throw a pass and you think you're going to hit him in stride. All of a sudden, one of their players might have had a little contact with one of our players. That was unfortunate."
Titans Ball Titans ran 3 plays with LenDale White complimenting the drive with a gain of 8 and 4 to put them on The Colts 3 yard line. White finished off the drive to earn his first career touchdown that pulled Tennessee to within 6 points with 4:58 left in the third quarter. Colts 19 Titans 13 Bironas kicks it off for 70 yards into Colts End Zone as T. J. Rushing brings out for 28 yards.
COLTS BALL
The Colts
accredited the loss as Addai started off the drive with a 4 yarder.
On 2nd and 6 Colts declined the offside call on Titans as they
accepted the later penalty when Peyton completed a pass to Ben Utecht
for 8 yards. Titan's safety, Calvin Lowry felt he needed to tackle
him by yanking him down by the face guard of Utrecht's helmet aiding
in a 15 yard face mask penalty that pushed the ball to the Titans 45. Peyton continued to move The Colts down the field as he connects with Harrison for 9 and Addai plows through the middle for 7 more yards for a First Down. Colts collect another First Down when Reggie Wayne makes a 10 yard catch along the sideline. Addai ran for 6 yards, while Manning threw incomplete to Harrison on the next play. No problem, as The Tandem make up for it on the next play when Harrison catches a 5 yard pass on third down. First and Goal.
Haynesworth
broke up the play to Reggie Wayne on the ensuing play as Dallas
Clark picked up 6 yards on a reception from Manning on the next. On
3rd and goal from the titans 2; Manning throws the fade to Harrison
in the End Zone, who has a step on Harper, performs a beautiful snag
out of the air ball,
. . . and everybody does notice the Official RIGHT THERE!
On 4th and 2 Colts bring out Adam Vinatieri for the Field Goal. Titan's defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, who had blocked an extra point in the first quarter, got his hands again on Adam Vinatieri's 20 yard kick. The ball deflected like a knuckleball, bounced on top of the crossbar barely making it over, yet it does; through the uprights for 3 very essential points to increase the lead to 9 and end the 3rd quarter. Colts 22 Titans 13
FOURTH QUARTER Vinatieri kicks it off for 65 yards to Titans 5 where Griffin ran it back for 19 yards before making contact with Reid.
Titans Ball
Titans
didn't have very good prospect with this series as Colts Corner Back,
Tim Jennings made his presence felt when he plowed Chris Brown for a
loss of a yard on Titans first play. It only got worse for Titans as
wide receiver Chris Davis fumbled after Colts' Kelvin Hayden punches
the ball free from his grasp and Colts Linebacker Tyjuan Hagler
pounced on it at the Titans 24.
COLTS BALL Colts didn't have very good prospect with their series neither as Tennessee's defense stood tall, forcing a three and out when Antwan Odom broke up the pass to Addai on Colts first play. Although Manning completed a 9 yarder to Addai on the 2nd play, Addai was stuffed behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 3 on 3rd down. Colts send out Vinatieri for the 3 pointer, yet as Field Goals have been an escapade today for Adam; Vinatieri hooks the 36 yarder wide left.
Titans Ball
It
started off bad for the Titans as Sanders flew in and sacked Young
for a 7 yard loss on their first play. Then they found their rhythm as Young connected with Justin Gage for a First Down. Young threw deep to Gage again as Colts safety Antoine Bethea was flagged for a 24 yard pass interference penalty. You have got to be kidding me! Bethea might have made very diminutive contact with Gage, but nothing to call a Pass Interference on. Face it Cage, you had the ball at your finger tips and were just unable to bring it in. Touched or not, you still were incapable of making the catch! Thanks Coleman officiating crew one more time! Titans have the ball on Colts 47 with a 1st and 10 to only get another First Down when Chris Brown broke off a 13 yard run. Titans gained another First Down and moved up to The Colts 23 after a 3 yard completion to White and an 8 yard run by Bo Scaife. LenDale White ran the ball on Titans next 2 plays for small gains of 2 and 4 as Young connected with Brandon Jones for 10 yards on the next play. Titans are now at Colts 7 yard line on 1st and Goal where Chris Brown runs the ball on the next 2 plays for shorts yards of 3 on both tries to end up on Colts 1 yard line. 3rd and 1 with Young from the Shotgun, he fires the ball to Williams, who made a diving catch in the left corner of the end zone for a Titans Touchdown and are within 2 points with just over 6 minutes to go in the last half of the game. Colts 22 Titans 20 Bironas kicks it off for 66 to The Colts 4 as T. J. Rushing runs it back for 28 yards to The Colts 32 before he is brought down by former Team mate Gilbert Gardner.
COLTS BALL The tension grew in my living room; as I'm confident it did everywhere else where an assembly of Colts Fans gathered. Peyton hands it off to Addai for a gain of 3 yards and then dumps a short pass off to Utecht for another 3.
Titans
call their 1st Timeout 3rd and 4 at the Colts' 38 and Manning connects with Marvin Harrison twice for gains of 7 and 11 to put The Colts in Titans territory and a First Down. Addai runs on the next 2 plays for gains of 8 and 5 before Peyton runs down the clock to fall into the 2 minute warning. Two Minute Warning
WHY? WHY?
WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? Why, I do not know. And Peyton didn't only throw one pass; which he threw incomplete. He TRIED to pass again and he under throws Harrison on what would have been a clinching 31 yard touchdown. Marvin had Harper beat, he also had the safety beat. But the ball never got there.
Colts
call their 1st Timeout To top things off, as it would appear that Manning had no intention on handing the ball off to Addai, Vanden Bosch breaks through the line and sacks Manning on third down for a loss of 4 yards putting The Colts on the 35 yard line with a minute and 46 seconds left in the game. Colts believe 53 yards is too far out of Vinatieri's range as they punt it away. Is 53 yards too far? His career long is 57 yards. Vinatieri kicked a 57 yard field goal in 2002 against the Bears.
Titans
call their 2nd Timeout Hunter Smith punts it 35 yards to Titans End Zone for a Touchback and Tennessee takes over at its 20 with one timeout and 1:38 left in the game. Remember when I said it was tense in my living room? We're beyond tense. I'm "Oh Shit" on the edge of my seat! Surely I'm not the only one remembering last year in 2006 when that f()*%ing Bironas won the game with a 60 yard field goal.
Titans Ball
Young
from the shotgun, Colts safety Bob Sanders drops Young for a 5 yard
loss on Titans first down. 2nd and 15 with 1 minute and 8 seconds left on the clock as Young fires one off to Brandon Jones for 6 yards. With a no huddle, Young scrambles for 12 yards for The First Down. With 37 seconds left in the game, Young dumps one off to Roydell Williams for 14 yards who was able to run it out of bounds at the Titans 47 to stop the clock. 1st and 10 and 31 seconds left when Young scrambles again for a gain of 6 making it into Colts territory. Young ended up throwing 2 bad passes leaving Titans with only 15 seconds left on the clock and its 4th and 4 for a first down. Titans go for it. I'm pacing the floor. I'm sweatin'! I'm prayin', hey, Peyton did it in Super Bowl XLI. C'mon Bob, c'mon Freeney, c'mon D, show me whatcha' got! Colts Defense showed Tennessee Titans what they got! Vince Young was instantaneously swarmed by The Colts Defense. Defensive tackle Darrel Reid crashed into the backfield. Left end Josh Thomas pushed hard. "It was crazy. Everybody just kind of bulled their guy and the whole pocket collapsed," Thomas said.
Young was
in trouble. As Young was engulfed by Colts Defensive Players he
searched frantically for an option. He tried at first to run, Middle
linebacker Gary Brackett knifed in and clamped his legs; when trapped, Young lateraled desperately to left guard Jacob Bell as the play got even wilder . . . . . . Linebacker Tyjuan Hagler flew at Jacob Bell, who in turn panicked, bobbled and pitched to . . .
. . .to Colts' Left Tackle, Darryl Reid.
Reid had the football at the Tennessee 38. The clock read 0:04.
COLTS BALL Manning takes a knee. GAME! Colts 22 Titans 20 Technically, Young threw an illegal forward lateral pass, in which flags were thrown as I would imagine due to such reasoning. Colts obviously declined the penalty or it was simply ignored as obviously COLTS HAVE THE BALL, THE END. NOTES Vinatieri came into the game having connected on 409 of 416 extra points. He hadn't missed on an extra point since 2005 while with New England when he went 40 of 41 that season. Manning passed both Boomer Esiason and Dave Krieg into 11th on the NFL's all-time yardage list. Marvin Harrison passed Chris Carter for fourth on the career yards receiving list. He came in needing 123 yards to pass James Lofton for third, but Harrison had 87 yards. The Colts now have won 36 of their last 43 and haven't lost in September since the 2004 opener. Colts quarterback Peyton Manning completed 28-of-42 passes for 312 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Young finished with 17 completions in 27 attempts for 184 yards and one touchdown. Marvin Harrison had six receptions for 87 yards Dallas Clark hauled in seven passes for 69 yards with a score in the victory. Wayne hauled in five passes for 70 yards Rookie, Anthony Gonzalez accounted for 49 yards. All came from the last 2 minutes of the game on a 79 yard drive capped by an Adam Vinatieri Field Goal. Addai slashed away at Tennessee's defense 20 times for 81 yards. Keith was on the field for approximately 10 plays but took only one handoff, gaining 2 yards. He had five carries for 32 yards in the season opener. Addai's busy afternoon against the Titans -- he also caught two passes -- came after a 23-carry outing against the Saints. The 43 carries in consecutive games are three short of his career high. He had 21 rushes in the 2006 regular-season finale against Miami, and then wore down Kansas City in the playoff opener with 25 carries. But he has said repeatedly he's eager to handle whatever workload coaches hand him. Addai is busy man in Colts' opening 2 games. So much, at least so far, for a Colts tandem running attack. Joseph Addai is on pace to carry the ball 344 times this season, which would be 118 more than he did as a rookie. He has accounted for 84.3 percent of the Colts' rushing attempts, the second-highest percentage in the league by a tailback. Peyton Manning: TD pass in 44 of last 50 games Manning: 41st career 300-yard passing game Colts: Snap 3-game losing streak in AFC South games Colts: 24-7 in last 31 AFC South games Colts: Won 14 of last 15 September games The Colts played without injured starting linebackers Freddie Keiaho (elbow) and Rob Morris (rib) Manning and the Colts improved to 8-1 against the Titans since the start of the 2003 season
Jones led the Titans with five catches for 57 yards, while Williams had four receptions for 72 yards. The Titans, who ran for 282 yards in last week's 13-10 victory, picked up 141 on Sunday. Chris Brown had 175 yards last week, but was limited to just 34 on 12 carries in this game. LenDale White led the Titans with 64 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown. This was Fisher's 200th regular season game, and his record now is 106-94. The Titans deactivated defensive end Bryce Fisher, who was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Tennessee also deactivated defensive tackle Randy Starks, who did not play for the first time since his rookie season in 2004. Starks' absence leaves open more playing time for Corey Simon, a former Colts lineman who was picked up Aug. 28.
